San Francisco Bay Area Amateur Radio Transmitter Hunting Group.

April 30, 2005, hunt date.

Start point, Altamont Pass (Livermore, California).

Two hidden transmitters.
1) Hard 1st Fox 146.415MHz
2) Easy (Barbecue Lunch) Fox 146.565MHz.

Mobile Hunt.

Lowest mileage wins.

Paul Shinn (KG6AOH) was the Fox (hider).

Winner, Bob Cooley (KF6VSE) with 75.3 miles.
Bob hunted this long distance transmitter with only a beam antenna and a U-R-Here radio (no Doppler).

After finding the 1st (Hard) Fox, we all drove to the easy fox, where Paul hosted a barbecue and fed us lunch (a Tritip roast).

Our host & Fox, Paul.
This group of local transmitter hunters prefer mobile hunting with Doppler's.

Lately the Fox (hider) uses Topographical Maps and try's to find a location where a reflected radio signal is heard at the start point. Transmitter hunters are typically stumped, as to where the Fox is hidden.

Regular transmitter hunts are:
1) Every 1st, 3rd and 5th Saturday of every month.

The 1st Saturday hunts are easy and intended to encourage new comers to try foxhunting.

The 3rd and 5th Saturday hunts are advanced hunts and intended to challenge experienced hunters in locating difficult transmitters.
