San
Francisco Bay Area Transmitter Hunters.Date of
hunt: April 16, 2005
For this hunt, you can start from anywhere. Most
started from their homes. One from south San Jose, one from Fremont and
another from Hayward.
There was only one hidden transmitter.
Fox frequency was 146.565 MHz. to an omni directional mag.mount antenna
on a fence, transmitting 2.5 watts.
Jim Sakane (KD6DX) hid the transmitter, north of
Orinda, California.
This was a mobile hunt with no winner.
Bob-KF6VSE arrived at 12:09 PM, starting from Hayward.
Pete-N6YIF and Don-KC6IPO arrived at 1:14 PM, starting from Fremont. (Link
to their story)
Don-KD6IRE and Linda-KE6BEO arrived at 1:20 PM, starting from South San
Jose.
This hunt was difficult for Doppler hunters close-in
because of the rolling hills surrounding the transmitter. Once you were
within 4 miles of the transmitter, the Doppler pointed behind you 50% of
the time. When you were within 1.5 miles of the transmitter, it's signal
disappeared for almost 1/2 mile.
