Don-KD6IRE setup a 1/2-watt transmitter at the Stanford Linear
Accelerator Center near Palo Alto, California.

The signal came in pretty good at the start point but, no
where else. You couldn't hear it until you were within 1-1/2 miles of
it.
I drove to Mt.View, only 7 miles from the transmitter
and turned around to go back to the start point, because I didn't hear
it.
Hearing the transmitter at the start point, I decided
to take an alternate route along my initial bearing. I have to admit,
transmitter hunting rules 1 and 2 applied on this hunt. (1)-Follow your
initial bearing and (2)-Get back on your initial bearing.
My initial bearing was 240*, the actual bearing should
have been 253* (16.7 miles).
