The
only team to start from the official start point was Jason-KG6LRF and
Susan-KG6LRG, who also found the Fox, one hour before I did. I started
from Groveland, Calif., a 2-1/2 hour advantage and not very far from
where Rich-KN6FW hid the Fox. As you can see in
the two maps to the left, my red GPS track, covered just about every
dirt road in the area. At the end of my 5 hours of driving around, my
tenth and final bearing pointed in a direction that I already covered.
Ahh wait, I see a small stretch of dirt road that I missed. Wouldn't you
know it, that's where Rich hid the Fox.

What did I learn from this hunt? 1) When
close-in, don't be impetuous and drive on all the dirt roads in the area
to get there first.
2) Take at least 3 bearing from high locations. In other words, your
first objective is to plot a route to a high point and take a bearing.
Do this two more times, before driving towards the Fox.
3) Us an "Interferometer" to determine if your bearing will be good or
just another reflection.
