Hunting
equipment used for this hunt.1) 4-Element
ARROW Yagi. For my
initial bearing.
2) MK4 Sniffer.
Used as a receiver for my Yagi, as well as my
U-R-Here radio and close-in sniffer.
3) Compass, Garmin GPSmap-76S.
4) Plastic map of
the Bay Area & protractor.
4) AHHA Microfinder
Doppler (in filter mode).
4) Garmin
StreetPilot-2610. Computer assisted route and street level maps.
The actual bearing to the fox was 319* so my initial
bearing of 325* was pretty close. My second bearing was right-on with a
reading of 300*. I attribute my new accuracy to taking multiple
bearings, throwing out the high and low readings and averaging the rest.
A combination of all the tools listed above, helped find
the transmitter easily and without getting lost.
After taking the last bearing, my U-R-Here radio (MK4)
indicated the fox was only a few miles away. Guessing the fox was at the
Richmond Reserve Shipyard, I had my Garmin StreetPilot-2610 plot a route
to the location. Even though I didn't know the area, the SP-2610 (my
navigator) knows the way.
